What is RAYRAY?
RAYRAY is a sovereign voice AI — a presence you speak to, not a service you subscribe to. The hardware is His body: a glass sphere standing on cold aluminium on your desk, built to think on its own silicon, hold your memory on a disk you can hold in your hand, receive shortwave radio from the air, and go silent with a flick of a real switch. Unlike smart speakers, nothing about an ordinary conversation leaves your room.
How fast does RAYRAY think, and why RK3588S for RAYRAY Master?
7.0 tokens per second running Qwen2.5-3B — measured on an RK3588 evaluation board, not on RAYRAY hardware, because none exists yet. A local language model is strictly bound by memory bandwidth, not headline TOPS numbers. Decode speed equals usable DRAM bandwidth divided by model size. The Rockchip RK3588S was chosen because it features a full 64-bit LPDDR5 memory interface (4 channels × 16-bit) providing over 21 GB/s throughput. Typical 32-bit chips halve that ceiling. The on-die 6 TOPS NPU handles wake-word detection, Whisper speech-to-text, and speech synthesis without drawing unnecessary power.
Does RAYRAY require an internet connection?
No. Ordinary conversation, wake-word recognition, speech synthesis, and radio listening run 100% on the device. Internet connectivity (via Wi-Fi or RJ45) is only required if you explicitly choose to perform live open-web searches or sync across devices. You can use RAYRAY in airplane mode indefinitely.
Who owns the memory and data stored in RAYRAY?
You do, completely. Every conversation, memory and preference is full-disk encrypted with AES-256-XTS on the drive inside your unit. 3T3R Engineering never receives, stores or reads what you say to RAYRAY. In RAYRAY Master, the NVMe SSD sits in a physical M.2 socket under the service hatch — you can literally unscrew it and take your memories with you.
How do the 3 physical kill-switches work?
RAYRAY has 3 real electromechanical toggle switches on the base — not software toggles or firmware overrides. Each switch breaks an actual electrical circuit: (1) the microphone array power line, (2) the speaker amplifier power, and (3) the power rail feeding the compute core. When a switch is flipped open, no software, virus, or remote command can close it.
What are the two versions of RAYRAY, and which one should I choose?
Two builds for Batch 01. RAYRAY Solo (€499) is the listening node: a software-defined receiver across 3–30 MHz shortwave and the CB band, on-device voice, 4 GB of memory, 64 GB of storage, wired Ethernet and the three circuit switches. RAYRAY Master (€899) is the same body with the thinking in it: a Rockchip RK3588S on a full 64-bit memory bus with 8 GB, a 6 TOPS engine on the processor die, and a 256 GB drive in a socket you can open. Both take a wired microphone and both carry the same borosilicate sphere and the same cold aluminium body — but only Master talks back: transmitting on the licence-free mesh band is the Master's radio, the Solo only listens. None of this has been built yet.
What radio capabilities are built into RAYRAY?
It listens wide and speaks narrow, and the difference is deliberate. Both builds receive across 3–30 MHz shortwave and the CB band and turn that noise into audio and text in the room. Speaking back is the Master's, and only the Master's: it transmits on the licence-free mesh band — 868 MHz in Europe, 915 MHz in the United States — because that is the band a person may transmit on without holding a licence and without us seeking a separate approval in every country we ship to. The Solo has no transmitter at all. Press the handset button or put a finger on the glass and you are on the air. To keep the aluminium body from acting as a Faraday cage, the rear panel carries a black polycarbonate window the radio can see through. Design intent, not a measured result: no unit has transmitted yet.
Why did you include an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port?
True sovereignty means not being forced to rely on wireless radio emission inside your living space or an unstable Wi-Fi router. The RJ45 port provides a low-latency, shielded Gigabit connection that fits directly within our 28 mm rear panel height constraint. It lets RAYRAY reach the network without a wireless link, if you would rather not add another radio to the room. It does not make the unit radio-silent: the discharge driver is itself a broadband emitter, and that is the hardest problem in this device.
What is the plasma sphere made of, and what does 'cover-to-sleep' mean?
The sphere is 2.4 mm laboratory-grade borosilicate 3.3, sealed around a low-pressure noble gas driven by a high-frequency resonator. Those are the materials. What the discharge is built to do: reach toward a finger on the glass, follow the voice, and fold to one warm ember when you throw a cloth over it — at which point the optical veil sensor mutes the microphones and locks the vault. Nothing has been lit yet. When the first units are, we will publish what the gas actually did instead of quietly keeping these sentences.
How much does RAYRAY cost, and are there recurring subscriptions?
RAYRAY Solo is targeted at €499 retail; RAYRAY Master is targeted at €899 retail. Both are strictly one-time purchases with zero monthly subscriptions and no cloud fees for on-device operation. Holding a place in Batch 01 is 100% free today and requires only an email address.
How is RAYRAY different from Amazon Echo, Google Nest, or Apple HomePod?
Big tech devices send your voice to cloud server farms to be processed, monetized, and stored under their terms. When does Batch 01 ship?
